Film industry came together to appeal to the public to help the 3 million people who suffered from the devastating flood in Bihar.
People who attended the press conference were Prakash Jha, Shatrughan Sinha, Shekhar Suman, Manoj Bajpai and Neetu Chandra, along with the politician Sanjay Nirupam
Prakash Jha has set up a rescue and relief operation, PUNARWAAS, Flood Relief Mission, Bihar, in collaboration with PRAYAS, headed by Shatrughan Sinha, with the help of an NGO working in Bihar.
The relief camp '€”22 RD will provide complete care for 5000 people in the village Kattaiya.
Prakash Jha said, "It's not the time to blame anyone but to fight with the situation to the best of ones ability. We need at least 9 crores to look after 5000 people for approximately nine months. A lot of people from the industry have come forward to help us."
He appealed, "It's a very grave situation. We need everyone's support."
Prakash Jha said people who want to donate can approach funds like fund in the name of Bihar's Chief Minister. Prime Minister too has started a new fund, Red Cross society."
Sanjay Nirupam said, "It's not Bihar's calamity but national calamity as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said. It's bigger that Gujarat's calamity. More people have been affected"
"With the help of Lion's club we have planned a relief rally where we will collect material for affected people in Bihar floods. A lot of Bollywood personalities will take part in this rally including Mahesh Bhatt, Govinda, Madhur Bhandarkar, Rakhi Sawant, Raju Srivastav, and Manoj Tiwari. The purpose of the rally is to create awareness on the Bihar floods and relief camps."
Sanjay Nirupam who is also planning to adopt a village, said, "When I told Salman about my plans of starting another camp he immediately became a part of the project and offered to raise the funds. Wizcraft has also joined hands with us and will organize a show with Salman and other Bollywood actors to raise funds."
Shatrughan Sinha urged the media to not politicize the calamity and concentrate on getting help for the needy as first priority. He immediately left from the conference for Patna to carry relief operations from the area of casualties. Shekhar Suman, Manoj Bajpai and Neetu Chandra also urged people to come forward and support the cause. Udit narayan donated 5 lacs during the conference.
