Dr.Rajkumar the icon of Kannada cinema was the staunch admirer of Lord Sri Raghavendra Swamiji when he was living. He is now awarded 'Sri Raghavendra Anugraha' posthumously.
Sri Raghavendra Math of Mantralaya has declared this award in the wake of Dr.Rajkumar service to art field.
The award of Rs.1 lakh cash prize and citation will be presented to Smt.Parvathamma Rajakumar at Mantrayala on 30th of this month in the presence of three sons of Dr.Rajkumar. The day happens to be the 'Aradhana' celebration of Lord Raghavendra Swamiji in Mantralaya.
It may be recalled that Dr.Rajkumar named his second son as Raghavendra as he was a great devotee of Sri Raghavendra Swamy and he was born during the shooting of his 'Mantralaya Mahatme'.
The height of popularity Dr.Rajkumar increased after his role in 'Mantrayala Mahatme' (made in 1966 by director Singh Takur. Jayanthi, Kalpana and Udayakumar also played important roles).
That was a super hit devotional Kannada film. A number of audio albums sung by Dr.Rajkumar on the significance of Sri Raghavendra Swamy also hit the market after the success of the film.
