The people of Cine Journalists Association (CJA) presented the Cine Critics Award to the outstandingly talented people of the film industry on 12th October, at Four Frames Theatre, Chennai. The function was presided over by A Thamizhanban, head of the association and Veteran director K Balachandar graced the event by distributing the awards. 'Paruthi Veeran' made a hat-trick by bagging three of the awards for the best movie, best director Ameer and best actress Priyamani.
Director Ameer was seen elated and he expressed his delight saying that the awards have been given to the deserving talents. He said that he is not against larger than life cinema and also said that commercial cinema and art cinema should go in parallel.
Ameer expressed that he himself is a fan of Rajinikanth but he said when it comes to recognizing an artist for talents, popularity or charisma alone should not be taken into account.
He spoke at the function as - Presenting the 'Best actor award' for mass heroes like Rajinikanth or Vijay based on the commercial success of their films, through polls or popularity is something that should not be entertained. 'Rajini, Vijay are capable of acting well. But they don't feature in films which exhibit their talent or offer much scope for performance. They can be awarded as 'Best Popular actor', 'Best Mass Hero' and their films as 'Best blockbuster' for their commercial success.
