The secret to draw masses to theatres to watch a film is make to nake a highly entertaining comedy movie, says Tamil director Badri, who feels this genre guarantees entertainment.
"Going by the trend in the industry, I believe comedy is the safest genre that can draw masses to the cinema halls. This doesn't mean other genres don't attract viewers, but comedy guarantees entertainment," Badri said.
"People come to watch films seeking entertainment amidst so many problems in life. Therefore, it's best if we give them precisely what they want. It's important to send them back with a smile on their face," he added.
Badri had earlier helmed Tamil film "Veerappu", and his latest film "Thillu Mullu", released Friday.
What's the scope for creativity in the comedy genre?
"I think with comedy, you can address the most controversial subject without having to worry about affecting anybody's feelings. I think you need creativity to do that. I also feel creativity is not restricted to any particular genre," he said.
Badri says he will never compromise on comedy in his films.
"I will continue to use comedy effectively in all my films. I think once you master the art of mixing comedy in adequate proportion, its unlikely audiences will hate it," he added.
