Do films generate crime? Answer is an emphatic No

Of late, films seem to be at the receiving end when it comes to accusations and baseless blame.

Though from the outside films seem like a lucrative business, it is not entirely so. The dream factory is not within anyone's easy-reach. Even if the entry may be easy for few, it takes nothing less than hard work which requires a film aspirant to slog, sweat and toil for days and nights together, to achieve what they seek to 'Success.

Only when a team tirelessly works for days at a stretch, can they produce a full-fledged film. Being the most significant medium of entertainment, films provide us recreation which are more often than not, a welcome break from the humdrum of the normal, mundane life.

Not all films concentrate on just the entertainment aspect though. Quite a few films with good messages have been made by film-makers who have taken many risks with respect to producing and marketing such off-beat ventures.

However, the film-makers' best efforts to keep their audiences happy and entertained, have not got the appreciation that they truly deserved. The most recent accusation of films being touted as the reason for triggering crime in the minds of youngsters is a case in point. This accusation has sprung primarily because two notorious serial killers have claimed that it is cinema, which has triggered the criminal instinct in them. Ridiculous? But this is what seems to be the focal point of discussion among many people now.

Psychologists opine that films can only arouse a pre-existing state of mind and that blaming films alone for such unfortunate mishaps is unjust. Films, they say, do not prompt individuals to take away lives.

Anti-socials must be curbed at a young age and many feel that blaming films on such issues is completely unwarranted.
