It is known that former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was buried at Marina Beach on December 6th this year. Some of her relatives on Tuesday re-performed the last rites of Amma at Paschima Vahini on the banks of Cauvery River in Srirangapatna town, Mandya.
As Jayalalithaa was buried instead of cremation as per Hindu customs, Relatives feared she mayn't attain 'Moksha'. Chief Priest Ranganath Iyengar created a doll, a Jayalalithaa lookalike, and performed rituals. The rituals gonna continue for five days to appease her soul.
Jayalalithaa's step-brother Varadaraju who is behind the re-performed last rites commented AIADMK should have respected the beliefs of party supremo. She questioned, 'Why did AIADMK buried Jayalalithaa? Why relatives weren't allowed for last rites? Jayalalithaa was a believer of Hindu rituals. If she was an atheist, She wouldn't have visited Temples, attended Hindu festivals and practiced religious traditions. Her last rites should have been performed as per Iyengar customs'.
