The first ever Indian biopic on a cricketer’s life ‘M.S.Dhoni-The untold Story’ is the solo big release across the country for the Gandhi Jayanthi weekend. The film has, as expected got a humungous opening everywhere with Dhoni smashing a century even in the silver screen also.In Chennai Box office, the film released in the original Hindi, as well as Tamil, dubbed versions put together in 18 theaters and had 275 shows screened in the first weekend (September 30 to October 2). The film has exceeded the magical 1 crore (Rs.1, 06, 28,085) mark with a whopping 95% occupancy .
This is a tremendous foot for a dubbed film. The film is expected to do exceptionally well on the weekdays and continue its box office blaze in the upcoming long festival weekend.Vijay Sethupathi’s ‘Aandavan Kattalai’ that released last week to unanimous critical acclaim performed well in the weekdays as well and has been holding on steadily in the second weekend also.
The number of screens and shows were marginally decreased in the Chennai box office. The film directed by Manikandan had 195 shows across 16 screens in the three-day weekend. With a good 80% average occupancy, the film has collected Rs.65, 87,940.Dhanush’s ‘Thodari’ which released in a large number of screens in the previous weekend is likely has settled with an average verdict with mixed reviews.
With 184 shows across 21 screens in Chennai, the film has collected Rs.39, 93,780 with 70% occupancy in its second weekend at the Chennai box office.Chiyaan Vikram’s ‘Iru Morgan’ which has already been declared a super hit is on the verge of completing one month run at the Box office.
The film released on September 8, 2016, and still holding on well at the box office with decent collections even after the release of big films in the subsequent weeks.In its fourth weekend, the film directed by Anand Shankar has achieved 70% occupancy and collected over Rs.12 lakhs (12, 64,560) with 70 shows across 10 screens in Chennai BO.
The total collection made by the film has exceeded a whopping Rs.5 crores (Rs.5, 60, 40,180).In the coming weekdays all these films, especially ‘MS Dhoni’ is expected to rake in good collections due to the quarterly holidays for school children across the state.
