In Telugu Film Industry, if any hero is known for some kind of a role then he would be majorly type casted in such roles and if audience accept him, then even the actor will be more and more pleased to showcase himself in that particular role with another dimension to the story. In 1970 – 80’s all over India, before the IT surge, a lull and a vacuum existed for young minds who graduated and they were angry against the system, reacted to the situations and even movies represented this ideology of the youngsters. Superstar Krishna was known during the 1970’s as a fire brand hero and an angry young man.
Even stalwarts like ANR and NTR also fought against the system as young olds in their films. By the time 80’s arrived, new breed of actors started taking over the reins and people started identifying, mainly youth, themselves in them. Chiranjeevi with Khaidi represented a new brand of storytelling and late in the 80’s Rajasekhar and Suman along with Bhanuchander, embraced the fire brand style hero who would stop at nothing till he corrects the system. This brand of young men took different shades like careless yet talented youth form in films like Gangleader and police officers with unquestionable moral strength in films like Ankusam. Rajasekhar with Ankusam became huge as an actor and was thought of to be a tough competitor to the likes of Suman and at times Chiranjeevi due to the phenomenal success.
But Rajasekhar saw very limited success as his script selection and remakes of popular Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi films did not work their magic as expected. There were films like Anna, Aahuthi, Allari Priyudu, Om, Magadu, Akka Mogudu, Simha rasi that worked big time for him as a action hero and family hero. But they were few and far in between the big failures but whenever he roared on screen in Sai Kumar’s powerful voice and in his typical body language as an angry man, he was able to get the cash registers roll. In recent past, after almost going out of any prominence he came back with Evadaithe Nakenti. The film showed him in his old glory and it worked well on screen. Rajasekhar got his popularity as he was regarded as one of the finest performers as well.
Now he with times changing, many of the producers are waiting for him to say, yes and be part of their films as a character actor. But the actor is not in any hurry for money, so he is taking steps with care. In past 5 years, he released just 2 films and his film with Ram Gopal Verma, did not even get a release. The actor started his next as a hero with Guntur Talkies fame and National recognition winning film, Chandamama Kathalu, director Praveen Sattaru. The film will feature, Rajasekhar as a cop and a lengthy shooting schedule recently completed in Georgia. Pooja Kumar, Viswaroopam fame, is playing the lady lead along with Shraddha Das, in a pivotal role.
