Ramana Creations is producing a movie on Mahatma Gandhi. Wait. This is not a biography on the great leader. Mahatma is made as a fictitious character and brought into the current period. He contests in an election!
Director A. Balakrishna, who has earlier made a film on the life of another great leader Kamarajar, is making the movie featuring Mahatma as a character. Kanakaraj, who donned the role of Gandhiji in 'Kamaraj' is acting as Gandhi in the new film, titled as 'Mudhalvar Mahatma'.
The director brings back the memories of Mahatma. He makes the great leader, who had shunned power in any form, contesting elections and winning it. Balakrishna features 21st century Gandhi as a man who makes meaningful intervention in a situation ruled by market economy and globalization. He comes back when the values in public life is at nadir. He reiterates the eternal values of simplicity, non violence, and Satyagraha, which alone could pave way for the progress of the nation.
Balakrishna's Mahatma also finds a new formula to eliminate hunger and poverty from the world. He aims to create a new world order where everyone is ensured to get his or her share of material needs. The youth force of India stands by him.
The story tries to stress that only Gandhism and Ahimsa could redeem the world from today's problems.
Balakrishna has dared to dream big and let us salute him for his bold approach to project Gandhian ways as the solution of the current day's problems.
