One of the most famous film personalities that India has ever created, Meera Nair, was chosen as the India Abroad Person of the Year 2007.
The Oscar-nominated director of acclaimed films like 'Salaam Bombay', 'Monsoon Wedding', 'Mississippi Masala' and 'The Namesake' was presented with the award by Indra Nooyi, Chairperson and CEO, Pepsi, on March 28 at a ceremony held at the Gotham Hall in New York City.
A member of the 'A' list of Hollywood directors, Meera Nair is originally from Orissa.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Nair paid rich tribute to her mother Parveen and all the other women who had inspired her to achieve heights and name that no other Indian filmmaker could make in international cinema.
