His first big role was the role of Srikanth he played in Kaakha Kaakha as a police officer beside the hero Surya. His next big role and his best so far was his role of Amudhan in the blockbuster Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu in which he plays the role of a psychopath. He also acted as one of the villains in telugu film 'Chirutha'
Balaji made his debut in Malayalam cinema through Black. Later he was cast the villain in Bhagavan (opposite Mohanlal) and Daddy Cool (opposite Mammootty).
