In last couple of years, there have been numerous instances of assistant directors turning into full fledged directors and making a mark for themselves in Bollywood. The feat is bound to be repeated again with the release of 'Nehle Pe Dehla' starring Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan in the lead. The director? Ajay Chandok.
In a career spanning around a couple of decades, Chandok has been mainly an assistant director to David Dhawan for a dozen odd films. The most notable of them are 'Aankhen', 'Coolie No.1', 'Deewana Mastana', 'Base Miyan Chote Miyan', 'Haseena Maan Jaayegi', 'Jodi No.1' and 'Ek Aur Ek Gyarah' to name a few.
With 'Nehle Pe Dehla', Chandok makes his belated debut as the film has been in the making for around 3 years now. Also there have been talks about the title of the film being changed to 'Jimmy Aur Johny' though confirmation is still awaited for the same.
In fact Chandok has no qualms in admitting that he comes from the David Dhawan school of filmmaking. He is fine to make films that may leave the critics hungry but would be no-brainers of the kind that would be lapped up the 'junta'.
Chandok also has two more films 'Kisse Pyaar Karoon' and 'Team - The Force' in hand which have been completed and are now waiting to hit the marquee. While 'Kisse Pyaar Karoon' stars Arshad Warsi, Aashish Chaudhary, Yash Tonk, Udita Goswami and Aarti Chhabria in the lead, 'Team - The Force' is an actioner that has Sohail Khan, Amrita Arora, Aarti Chhabria and Yash Tonk as its major attractions.
