"My this film is homage to that lady Gudiya who just absorbed all odd things and emotions of her life for the sake of Islam, Shariyat and orthodox law of the Muslim society which definitely needs a reform in 1950 year's old traditions according to current times and situations. This film focus on human aspect of the lady who went through extreme mental and emotional trauma and really the larger than life incident in her life which gave a new light to change the old and inhuman customs, traditions and forceful religious orders," comments director Prabhakar Shukla for his film Kahani Gudiya Ki.
But there are protests and pressures to ban the screening of the film by certain sections of society. Kahani Gudiya Ki released in Mumbai, Indore, Surat and some other cities of M.P. on April 25th but ever since then there have been protests against it.
The protest to ban the film Kahaani Gudiya Ki was held at movie Star Theatre, Goregaon West by Rashtriya Aman Manch and All India Minorities Conference.
They were arrested and breach of 144 was invoked on them, while the protesters asked to ban the screening of the film. The Goregaon police has written to the Commissioner of Police that due to law and order problem the screening of film should be stopped and film should be removed from the theatres.
The All India general secretary of All India Minorities Conference Mr. Fasi Akmal had already held a dharana at Jantar mantar against this film on 12th April 08 at New delhi and given a memorandum to the I&B Minister to ban this film.
This film is the real life story of Gudiya, who had to go through the trauma of perceived widowhood, remarriage and then emergence of her dead husband as alive. Later she was told to go back to her first husband as that was the law of her religion. Eventually she died. This is a true life story. Says Prabhakar Shukla, "We have also been receiving threats to our life and I have filed a report with Oshiwara Police Station. Compliant no is 1410/08 , dated 8th April 08, u/s 506. Arif's brother has filed an FIR on us saying that they will not let this movie to release at any cost. On 1st April in an statement given to ETV-UP they said it. We are also facing some strong reactions from conservative Muslim community and organizations as even they don't want this movie to release. News has been flashed in all Leading Urdu news paper across India with such statements. On the other hand we are getting strong support from All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board which says about revised Talaqnama keeping women rights in mind."
Incidentally, after the death of Gudiya, both of her husbands have remarried while her son is now taken care by Gudiya's parents. Producers have decided to raise funds and support the kid.
