The team of Sarbjit has reason to rejoice! Ahead of the film's release, the UP government, today, declared the Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda starrer tax-free. Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav, who met with the team earlier this month, said that the decision will be implemented with immediate effect.
Elated and overjoyed, actor and producer of Sarbjit, Jackky Bhagnani, said, "From day one, we have all believed that Sarbjit is a story that needed to be told. It's our labour of love and the team and I are humbled by Akhilesh Yadav's kind gesture. He has been supportive from the very beginning and this decision has only strengthened our belief in our film."
Sarbjit is based on the life of Indian farmer Sarabjit Singh, who strayed into Pakistan, was convicted of terrorism and spying, and sentenced to death. His sister, Dalbir Kaur, played by Aishwarya Rai, fought selflessly for 23 years to get him freedom, until he died in 2013 following a brutal attack by fellow prisoners in a Lahore prison.
Sarbjit releases on 20th May 2016. The film has been directed by Omung Kumar of Mary Kom fame, and is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Bhushan Kumar, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Sandeep Singh, Jackky Bhagnani, and Krishan Kumar.
