The death toll from floods in India and Pakistan has reached 400 as authorities warned of more flooding in the days ahead.

The floods have put half a million people in peril and rendered thousands homeless. Pakistani and Indian troops have been using boats and helicopters to drop food supplies for stranded families and evacuate victims.

In Pakistan, 205 have died while 200 perished in India. Nearly 700 people have been injured.

Ahmad Kamal, spokesman for Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority, says the floods are moving toward the country's south. He says evacuations are planned in several southern districts which could soon be inundated.

The flash floods have caused big losses on both sides of the divided Kashmir region, and have also caused much devastation in northern and eastern Pakistan.
