Accolades poured from all around the world for director Cheran after he made 'Autograph'. The movie took audiences on a nostalgic walk-down-memory-lane in spectacular fashion. He is currently making a film titled 'Pokkisham' which is expected to have his unique way of storytelling. Once 'Pokkisham' is completed, the ace director would start the sequel to his highly acclaimed 'Autograph'.
Cheran, in a recent interview, made it verys clear that he is totally for films like 'Kaadhal', 'Veyyil', 'Mozhi', 'Paruthiveeran' and 'Subramaniapuram'. These are films that are not only well made but also have received tremendous responses from Tamil audiences.
'There are big budget movies made with tags that cry out 'World Class'. Bid Budget does not necessarily mean world class', says Cheran. 'Some of the movies made with huge budgets are successes when it comes to business. But that does not always mean they are good films' adds the director.
He also made it very clear that Tamil movies should reflect the lives of Tamil people in such a way that the world understands the cultural and emotional values of Tamilnadu. Tamil Cinema is fortunate to have many filmmakers who think along these lines. This according to Cheran is a welcome sign.
Cheran had made 'Bharathikannamma', 'Porkaalam' and 'Thavamai Thavamirunthu' which went on to be highly successful. His 'Mayakannadi' however did not do so well. When asked about this, Cheran said, 'I would take the 'Mayakannadi' experience as an opportunity for introspection and carry on from there'.
