Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, Puratchi Thaliavi Jayalalitha is no more. She breathed her last at 11:30 pm on Monday, December 5, 2016 following cardiac arrest in Apollo Hospitals, yesterday. She was 68. A team of doctors from AIIMS and Apollo Hospitals have provided all life saving measures to the TN's CM for the past two days. Finally, all their attempts went in vain.
Jayalalitha was born on February 24, 1948. She held the responsibilities as a CM of Tamil Nadu for six times. Her previous stints as a CM were 1991-96, 2001, 2002-06, 2011-14 and 2015 to till date. She gave a new life to AIADMK post the demise of late MGR.
As an actress Jayalalitha enjoyed unprecedented following and got stunning victories down South in all Southern languages. She acted as many as 140 films between 1961-1992. She made her film debut with a Kannada film 'Shrishaila Mahathme' released in 1961. 'Manushulu Mamathalu', 'Aasthiparulu', 'Chkkadu Dorakadu', 'Alibaba 40 Dongalu', 'Goodhachari 116', 'Aame Evaru', 'Gopaludu Bhupaludu', 'Brahmachari', 'Nluvudopidi' etc. were some of the films enacted by her in Telugu.
Jayalalitha received Kalaimamani award from TN government in 1972. Besides, she won doctorates from various universities. Jayalalitha's death is an irrecoverable loss to Indian politics.
