Producers Council to set up film institute

Thammareddy Bharadwaja, after getting elected to the Producers' Council as president, held a meeting for the first time with the Press on September 28.

Speaking on the occasion, he says, 'The producers should treat every rupee they saved in the production cost as profit. Then only they could survive in the industry. We are planning to take up the long pending ideas like talent search and establishment of a film institute in Hyderabad very soon. We will remain cooperative with each other and all the 24 crafts would work in tandem. We will extend our fullest support to the special shows that were planned by the Movie Artistes' Association in Malaysia and Singapore to raise funds for their building and to help the poor and aged artistes. However, we will ensure that the dates of the artistes that were already given to the producers would not clash with those dates and necessary adjustments would be made well in time to avoid inconvenience to both the producers and also the artistes. We made an appeal to the MAA president K Nagababu not to declare a holiday for the artistes in general as the artistes who were not participating in the Star Nite, could continue with their shooting schedules, which would help the producers in a long way to complete their films on time.'

He further says, 'A representation was already given to the State government on the problems faced by the exhibitors and other issues like theatres' monopoly, screening of films on percentage basis, control over production costs and the screening of big films in more number of theatres leading to the non-availability of theatres for the screening of small films. I wish an amicable solution would be achieved on all these problems and we are striving our best in this regard.'

General secretary of the producers' council TVD Prasad thanked the members for electing them unanimously.
