Matinee Review
by MyMazaa.comStory:
Film talk about two different people, and because of different reasons both came into film industry. And the different future is awaiting for them in the film industry forms the core of Matinee. We have Najeeb (Maqbool Salmaan) who dream to become a film star in spite of resistance from his family. On the other hand we have Savithri (Mythili), a poor girl, and she lost her mother early on. And she was sexually and mentally harassed by her abusive father (Sasi Kallinga). After escaping from her father she also came to film industry.
Both Najeeb and Savithri got a lead pair in a love story, however the film released as a b grade film. The society ill treated both of them. And how both will sail past the odds form the rest of the story. The film then had Savithri adjusting to the reality and went on to act in such films. While Najeeb continued to struggle however Savithri helped him in his struggles.
Maqbool in his debut came up with a good show as a down to earth character, though emotional scenes could have been better. In other hand Mythili although can’t be termed as extra ordinary, she was able to rebuild her image as an actor. Nevertheless this will be her best performance in an equally well written role. The rest of the characters including Sasi Kallinga, Lena Abhilash, Thalaivasal Vijay, Kiran Raj all supported the lead well.
Aneesh Upasana’s direction was good, same goes for Anil Narainan’s script, though there is not much freshness he was able to showcase the mental feelings of the characters and no doubt he was a success in that point of view. The second half proved to be slow paced compared to the former. The songs and background score from Ratheesh Vegha, Gopi Sunder, Anand Raj Anand suite the mood of Matinee. The editing by Nikhil Venu and cinematography by Pappinu also deserve special mention.
